Digital LED strips are on the rise. They are becoming an increasingly common part of modern lighting. With the ability to control each individual LED chip separately, they offer endless possibilities for creating dynamic lighting scenes, animations and effects. From design installations in cafes and offices to light shows in music clubs.
What are digital LED strips?
Digital LED strips are a relatively new, advanced type of LED strips. The LED chips contain a "driver" that allows each spot to be addressed and controlled individually. This means you can create smooth transitions, flashing effects and complex animations. This makes these strips an ideal choice for creative projects where light becomes a dynamic element of the space.
Digital LED strips and the way they are controlled are constantly evolving, which makes them increasingly available to a wider range of users - from professional designers and architects to DIY enthusiasts.
Types of digital LED strips
WS2811
- Voltage: 12 V
- Number of channels: 3 channels (RGB)
- Usage: WS2811 is one of the most widely used types of digital LED strips due to its simplicity and affordability. It is suitable for large scale decorative lighting, lighting effects in clubs and restaurants or as ambient lighting in homes.
- Case study: We used this type to cover the ceiling in Houseboat U Bukanýra.
WS2812B
- Voltage: 5 V
- Number of channels: 3 channels (RGB)
- Usage: The WS2812B LED strip can be addressed in approx. 1.6 cm sections. It is therefore suitable for smaller installations, decorative elements or for creating precise light patterns on smaller surfaces.
- Case study: The WS2812B LED strip is part of the luminaires used for the Království železnic.
WS2815
- Voltage: 12 V
- Number of channels: 3 channels (RGB)
- Usage: WS2815 adds a backup data channel. It offers single LED failure immunity, ensuring that even if one LED fails the strip still works. Ideal for large installations or where reliability is critical, such as decorations in public places.
- Case study: We chose this type of LED strip for the decoration of the cabin of the men's "A" team of FC Hradec Králové.
SK6812
- Voltage: 5 V
- Number of channels: 4 channels (RGBW)
- Usage: The SK6812 offers an additional white channel to produce brighter and more natural white light. Perfect for spaces where both colour effect and quality white light are needed.
WS2814
- Voltage: 12 V
- Number of channels: 4 channels (RGBW)
- Usage: WS2814 could be named as a 12V variant of the SK6812 strip. It is suitable for larger scale installations where there is a requirement for a combination of RGB and white light.
WS2805
- Voltage: 12 V
- Number of channels: 5 channels (RGB, warm and cool white)
- Usage: This type offers a combination of colour and white channel, which can also change its chromaticity temperature. This makes it a very universal LED strip suitable for commercial premises where the light scenes change frequently during the day.
