215 light lines. How we brought the facade of Opava Ice Stadium to life

The new facade of Opava Ice Stadium becomes a dynamic lighting feature after dark. Spectoda controls the brightness, colours, and animations of 215 RGB LED strips.

A new stadium facade rooted in its history

Opava Ice Stadium has undergone an extensive renovation. Its new identity is defined by a distinctive envelope of vertical fins which, according to QARTA Architektura, refers to the stadium's original steel truss structure. From the outset, the facade was designed to support ceremonial lighting as well.

Our role was to give that light movement and connect hundreds of individual elements into one reliable system.

The challenge: 215 individually controlled RGB LED strips

The facade incorporates 215 vertical RGB LED strips. Each requires its own control, while the final effect must read as a single whole. Colour and brightness can be adjusted line by line, allowing light animations to flow smoothly across the building.

The solution also had to work outdoors, handle long cable runs, and remain simple to operate. The facade's intensity adjusts to ambient daylight, and prepared animations can also be triggered using physical buttons.

A dedicated controller for every light line

For this project, we developed and manufactured SC Dimmer RGBW controllers. Each controller manages one light line on the facade. We supplied 215 controllers for the installation — one for every RGB LED strip.

Spectoda Gateway adds remote monitoring and service access, while a daylight sensor and simple manual controls support everyday operation. The entire installation can also be managed in the Spectoda App.

From installation to finished animations

Less than three weeks passed between order confirmation and final commissioning. Once installation was complete, we commissioned the system on site, verified communication across all components, and prepared two lighting animations for everyday operation. We also configured the physical buttons, ambient-light brightness regulation, and remote access through the Gateway.

The result: a facade that can change character

Opava Ice Stadium now has a dynamic lighting layer that respects the building's architecture while giving it a new expression after dark. Individual fins can light up in different colours and intensities, respond to prepared scenes, and create movement across the facade.

For the operator, the system remains simple: preset animations can be launched with a button, brightness adapts to ambient conditions, and service can be performed remotely.
