Hybrid lighting control brings flexibility and savings

Autor: Denisa Jindřichová, 11. 12. 2025

Every space is different. In some places, cabling can be laid without restriction, while in others it is practically impossible or extremely costly. Some projects require precise control of luminaires via DALI, while others require the flexibility of wireless communication.

And then there are installations where both are needed.

Spectoda hybrid control was created for these situations, combining the best of both worlds: the stability of DALI + the flexibility of a wireless mesh network.

A real-life story: when cables are not enough

Imagine the daily hustle and bustle of a production hall or school corridor. Some parts are easily accessible and cabling makes sense there — for example, long rows of luminaires along aisles. Elsewhere, however, the situation is completely different. Hard-to-reach ceilings, finished structures, tall ladders, or areas where it is impossible to cut or add new wiring due to ongoing operations.

We encountered precisely these challenges in several projects:

  • The Slavia sports hall in Havířov – a combination of DALI control and wireless communication between controllers.
  • School premises where some of the lights run on DALI, but sensors and controls need to be wireless.
  • Logistics and production halls where some of the electrical installations are original and some are new – ideal for a hybrid approach.

Spectoda shows a great advantage in all these places: it adapts to the space.

How hybrid control works:

  • The controllers communicate wirelessly with each other via Spectoda Mesh, which simplifies installation, speeds up deployment, and reduces costs.
  • Individual controllers control luminaires (or drivers) via DALI lines where it makes sense.

This creates an architecture that is reliable, flexible, and economical.

Products

SC Industry / SC Linear

Controllers designed to control up to 16 DALI drivers. Thanks to wireless communication, they can be part of the entire mesh system without the need for cable connections between individual zones.

A suitable solution for halls, schools, offices, and larger lighting systems.

SC Daylight

Controllers designed for a combination of lighting control and sensor connection (e.g., for daylight control). Ideal wherever you want to connect DALI luminaires with automation.

Spectoda Mesh

A wireless layer that connects all controllers into one intelligent unit. Wi-Fi independent, internet independent, designed for robust operation in any environment.

Why the hybrid model works so well

  • Cabling savings — instead of pulling cables to the switchboard, simply connect a 5-wire cable between the luminaires
  • Quick installation — ideal for both existing and new spaces.
  • One system for everything — lights, sensors, scenes, automation.
