Spectoda is expanding its compatibility with another important standard: we now support DALI DT8 drivers. This step represents an important milestone in the integration of smart, wireless lighting control into projects based on established lighting protocols.
What is DALI DT8 and why does it matter?
DALI DT8 (Device Type 8) is a standard that allows multi-channel luminaires to be controlled by a single driver. This means:
- simpler wiring without the need for multiple parallel outputs,
- savings on cabling,
- easier configuration.
This feature allows you to effectively control both RGB(W) color luminaires and white temperature (TC – Tunable White). If your project is based on the DALI protocol, DT8 is the standard that enables this functionality.
Counterproposal - This feature allows for effective control of both RGB(W) color lights and white temperature (TC – Tunable White). In projects that use the DALI protocol, DT8 is the standard that enables this functionality. Control can also be achieved without DALI, but if full compatibility with the DALI infrastructure is required, the use of DT8 is essential.
Typical areas of application
The new compatibility opens the door to projects where full DALI integration is required:
- smart offices,
- multifunctional spaces,
- retail with tunable white lighting,
- interactive installations.
Architects, designers, and integrators can continue to use standardized luminaires while adding Spectoda's flexible wireless control.
Which DT8 variants do we support?
Spectoda currently supports two key DT8 variants:
- DT8_RGBWAF
→ control of colored lights (RGB, RGBW LED strips)
→ includes Red, Green, Blue, White, Amber, and Free channels
- DT8_TC
→ tunable white control
→ TC= Temperature Control
Configuration in practice
Simply set the parameter in the Spectoda controller:
"variant": "DT8_RGBWAF"
or
"variant": "DT8_TC"
Presets for DT8 configurations are available in the setup tab (e.g., for Industry A6 Controllers) under the keyword DT8 (for more information, see our documentation/don't forget to click through!!!)
Connection limitations
Spectoda currently supports DALI DT8 only with a single type of driver on the line:
- One DALI line = one DT8 subtype.
(RGBWAF and TC cannot be mixed on one bus.)
If your project consists of both variants, the solution is simple: split the line and use multiple controllers. In 90% of real-world installations, this separation is already common practice today.
Easy integration and smart control
Spectoda + DALI = standardized luminaires controlled smartly and wirelessly.
