Light against hate: we illuminate the memory of Juraj and Matúš with rainbow colours

Autor: Eliška ze Spectoda, 28. 10. 2023

On 12 October 2022, two young men, Juraj and Matúš, were victims of a terrorist attack in the Bratislava club Tepláreň. One year later on the same day, the upper part of Wenceslas Square in Prague was lit up in rainbow colours. It was a reminder of their fate and a powerful message of acceptance and love.

Spectoda in cooperation with Prague Pride

Following a recommendation from Martin Pošta, director of the Signal Festival, we were approached by Prague Pride with a request to collaborate on this important project. We worked with one of the upcycled lighting elements designed by light designer Lukáš Dřevjaný.We created a light show that was synchronized with the audio. In it, three parents told their stories and experiences of the fears they experience as parents of children from the LGBT+ community.

More than just lights

Visitors not only had the opportunity to immerse themselves in an immersive audio-visual show. They could also light a candle in memory of Juraj and Matúš, create their own banner or sign the "Together Against Hate" appeal.

Light design thus became a tool for expressing a deep social message. Spectoda is proud to have been part of this event and to show how light can inspire and connect.
